The Chartered Institute of Marketing is delighted to announce they have teamed up with MS Society of Jersey in order to help raise the profile of the condition in the Island, and help achieve additional financial and non-financial support.
MS is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK, with most people being diagnosed between the ages of 20-40.
MS is a condition that affects your nerves. Nerves are made up of many fibres. Thousands of nerve fibres transmit tiny electrical impulses (messages) between your brain and spinal cord to the rest of your body; to your muscles, skin or organs. If you have MS, your immune system damages the myelin sheaths around the nerves in your brain and spinal cord. These become scarred and hardened. This scarring prevents the affected nerves from sending signals properly.
There is no known cure for MS; however there are various treatments and therapies available depending on the individuals’ symptoms.
Steve Cartwright, Chairman of the Jersey Branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing commented “We are delighted to be supporting MS Jersey in building their profile in the Island. MS is a widely misunderstood condition, and MS Jersey provides outstanding practical and emotional support to islanders living with the condition.
Steve went on to say “At this years CIM Awards and Gala Dinner, which takes place on Friday 18th November 2011, at the Great Hall, Hotel de France; individuals and organisations will be able to make donations to this fabulous charity.
Danielle Sowden of MS Jersey went on to say “We are delighted that CIM has chosen MS this year as their chosen charity in order to help raise the profile of MS in Jersey. There are many misconceptions about the condition and MS Jersey is on hand to provide support and advice to those in need.”
