The Jersey branch of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has confirmed that the host for the Marketing Awards and Gala Dinner 2011, which takes place on the 18th November at the Hotel de France, will be Ruby Wax.
Chat show host and comedienne Ruby Wax has charmed and chided all manner of celebrities. She presents the daily chat show Ruby, and plays the voice of The Pope in the BBC’s animated sitcom Popetown.
Over the years Ruby has become a household name with a huge range of programmes, all which display her trademark cutting humour. Alongside ‘The Full Wax’, ‘Wax Meets…’ and ‘The Waiting Game’, she has tackled more serious documentary television, with Miami Memoirs, East Meets Wax and Class of ‘69. More recently she wrote and starred in Hot Wax and two series of American Pie. She also sang in the Comic Relief Fame Academy, and extolled the genius of The Catcher in the Rye as part of the nation’s Big Read.
Steve Cartwright, Chairman of the CIM Jersey Branch, said: “Ruby Wax is without question one of the most entertaining comediennes to grace our television sets. Her quick wit and attention to detail is second to none and we are delighted that she will be the host for what promises to be a night to remember, and to celebrate marketing excellence in Jersey.”
The winners of the Marketing Excellence Awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner held on Friday 18 November at the Hotel de France, where over 500 of the Island’s marketers and business professionals will gather to celebrate local marketing excellence.
This year’s theme is ‘Speakeasy’, with the Gala Dinner recreating a scene from a chilly November evening in 1930s Chicago, where the Speakeasy, with its private tables, dim lights and blacked out windows, provides the only place in town to escape the prohibition.
The prohibition began in January 1920, with Speakeasies springing up shortly after. In secret rooms and basements throughout America, illicit drinking dens, backed by the mob, became increasingly popular. Never advertised publicly, only those with the password could get through the door where they would be greeted with music, dancing and liquor. Although Al Capone will not feature at the CIM Speakeasy, attendees will be whisked back in time to that November evening in Chicago all those years ago.
